OUR MISSION
Empowering Black UX&UI Designers
We’re dedicated to providing practical knowledge, career guidance, and a platform for self-expression.
Our goal is to elevate Black designers by helping them build thriving careers and establish a lasting impact in the field of UX/UI design.
STATISTICS
Black professionals are significantly underrepresented in senior UX/UI and product design roles, both in the United States and the United Kingdom.
In the US, only 3.4% of user experience designers identify as Black or African American (Zippia). Similarly, in the UK, Black professionals make up just 3% of the tech workforce, with Black women representing a mere 0.7% (OliverBernard).
This lack of representation is what inspired the creation of Black UX&UI Designers. Our mission is to empower Black individuals to believe in their potential to reach higher positions within the design field. Through guidance, community, and resources, we are working to bridge the gap and support meaningful progress towards a more inclusive future for UX&UI and product design.
Why We Exist
When I began my career, I had some great mentors from all backgrounds. However, the lack of representation from others who looked like me in higher positions at the time made my journey feel isolating.
Having someone in leadership who looked like me would have given me extra belief that I could also achieve higher positions in this field.
I launched Black UX&UI Designers in 2020 for this very reason. However, I had to step back due to personal challenges, including job changes and a few negative experiences. These challenges triggered imposter syndrome, and I questioned how I could give advice when I was struggling myself.
After taking time to reflect, I realised by God’s grace that my experiences could still inspire and help others. Feedback from members of the group further confirmed the value of this community.
Now, I’m fully committed to creating a space where Black designers can grow and thrive—the kind of community I wish I had when I started out.
